Evidence

Wrong identity breaks the ticket

Parts punchout and canned jobs only help if the vehicle on the repair order is the vehicle in the bay. When trim is a sticky-note guess, the catalog search starts wrong, the advisor rebuilds the estimate, and the customer hears hesitation. A second vehicle spreadsheet in another tab does not fix that — it creates another place for the truth to drift. The bay asks for pads for one trim; the counter ordered for another.

ShopRally’s VIN decode puts year, make, model, and trim on the same vehicle record the RO already uses. Founding Pro includes that decode without a per-lookup meter. You are not renting identity one scan at a time, and you are not waiting for Elite just to fill the vehicle line.

Plate→VIN is the honest upgrade: when the VIN is not in hand and you only have a plate, Elite (Ultra inherits) runs that lookup. Pro shops decode the VIN they have — or type the vehicle in manually. We do not pretend plate→VIN is free on Pro, and we do not bury that gate in fine print.

This page does not lead with government branding. Identity belongs on your RO for the work your shop does — PartsTech, canned jobs, estimates — not as a logo farm.

Sticky-note trim is the cheap version of the same failure. Someone writes EX-L on a pad. Catalog search runs against a guessed year. Canned brake jobs get rebuilt because nobody trusts the vehicle line. Plate day means a phone call to someone with a better tool. Pro VIN decode without a meter tax is the fix for the VIN you have. Manual entry covers the rest. Elite plate→VIN is the honest upgrade when the plate is all you have — not a hidden “coming soon on Pro.”

Correct identity is the quiet half of the money path: fewer wrong-part returns, fewer rebuilt estimates, less “hold on while I check the door sticker.” We will not invent an accuracy percentage to sell that sentence. Soft pair: Customers & vehicles and service-history keep this-shop CRM and prior visits on that same identity — not a third-party history report. Founding pricing if you need it: Pro $119 / Elite $239 / Ultra $319 month-to-month. Plate→VIN requires Elite.

Identity path

From VIN to the work that uses it

Not three generic floor verbs. An identity path that feeds the rest of the shop — the same evidence→money spine as inspections and PartsTech, starting at the vehicle line.

  1. 1

Enter the VIN on the vehicle

Decode onto the record the RO already uses.

  2. 2

    Confirm the spec

Year, make, model, and trim on that vehicle.

  3. 3

    Start parts and canned jobs

Same identity — not a windshield guess.

  4. 4

    Plate when you need it

Elite plate→VIN. Pro decodes or types it in.

Enter the VIN on the vehicle. Decode onto the record the repair order already uses. You are not maintaining a second vehicle list that never quite matches the ticket. One identity, one RO.

Confirm the spec. Year, make, model, and trim land where the counter and the bay can see them — on that vehicle, on that RO. Nobody retypes the windshield into a parts portal later.

Start parts and canned jobs from the same identity. PartsTech search and canned templates begin from the vehicle on the ticket, not from a windshield guess. Correct identity is the quiet half of the money path: fewer wrong-part returns, fewer rebuilt estimates, less “hold on while I check the door sticker.”

Plate when you need it. Plate→VIN is an Elite lookup. On Pro, decode the VIN you have or enter the vehicle manually. The upgrade is clear; it is not hidden as “coming soon on Pro.” When the plate is all the driver left, Elite fills the gap without rewriting your Pro story.

Contrast

Sticky-note trim vs one identity

Before

Trim lives on a sticky note. Someone maintains a side list of vehicles. Catalog search runs against a guessed year. Canned brake jobs get rebuilt because nobody trusts the vehicle line. Plate day means a phone call to someone with a better tool.

After

One vehicle identity on the RO. Pro VIN decode without a meter tax. Manual entry when you need it. Elite plate→VIN when the plate is all you have. PartsTech and estimates inherit the same record.
